Where To Find A Genuine Aboriginal Art Store

Often visitors to Australia become interested in the artwork of Australian aboriginals – the indigenous people. These artworks and artefacts are quite unlike anything else you might see from other artists. However, it always pays to find a genuine aboriginal art store from which to purchase a painting or whatever catches your eye. Otherwise you might get it home only to find that it is not genuine at all, but a copy made in another country and imported into Australia.

So where can you find stores that sell genuine indigenous artworks? In the middle of capital cities is not the best place to look. However if you go out west or into the Red Centre – e.g. Alice Springs – you are quite likely to find a genuine art gallery or two from which to buy your treasures.

One good way to find a gallery that sells genuine art works from native Australians is to go online and type in those keywords. You will find that the search engines bring up some online galleries from which you can make a purchase. This is ideal for those whose itineraries do not include any Outback towns.

You can also purchase such things as an authentic Aboriginal boomerang that is decorated with various patterns and pictures all of which tell a tale about the Aboriginal way of life or the Dreamtime – aboriginal spirituality. This is what makes such artefacts fascinating even more than what the actual object was used for in ancient times.

Some art galleries will have special didgeridoos for sale. These are hollowed out logs or branches that are used to make special Aboriginal music with. They can be quite large but smaller ones are the best for shipping overseas. Many such didgeridoos have been decorated with authentic aboriginal art and so you are getting two things in one when you buy them.

Even though buying online is quick and simple, visiting the galleries and meeting the native artists in person is a much better way to choose a picture or any artefacts. Of course, not all artists can be found at the galleries; some live in remote areas and rarely visit the place that sells their works. However, in many cases you can meet some of the artists and learn from them exactly what their art work represents and the story it tells. This makes ownership of the picture much more interesting and worthwhile.
