Combat in Streets of Rage is simple but satisfying. Simple four hit combos and jumping kicks are what you are limited to. The AI characters are the usual thugs with karate masters and a whip toting dominatrix thrown in for good measure. The enemy types unfortunately repeat themselves and the only change in the characters is the color of their clothes. however, new enemies are introduced from time to time but it doesn’t fix the problem.

Underneath random phone booths, tables and cones are a health power ups such as apples and pieces of meat and a variety of weapons such as knives, bats and broken bottom. at the end of every level there is a boss fight. The boss fights can be extremely hard. It’s been about 12 years since I’ve played this game and even though I remembered how every boss moved and attacked, I still had a hard time beating them.

Streets of Rage is arguably one of the best side scrolling beat-em up game of all time. The game is highly addictive and a blast to play with friends.
