This girl gets dumped by her boyfriend, she goes through the stages of depression. Her parents abuse her and don’t care anything about her, all she has is her brother. This is a very heartwarming story about a girl trying to prove herself.
My heart was throbbing with unbearable pain. Ron Stewart just dumped me in front of every frickin’ kid at West Roosevelt High. My face is fuming in agony, and embarrassment. All the kids laughing at me, even who I thought was my best friend, Jacy Macts. I ran out of the room, tears streaming down me like it was raining a bad storm. I barge in the girls bathroom, and see my mascara was ruined, just like my life now. I hate him! We kissed, talked and bonded so well together, and then at an assembly, I go sit by him, and right before I sit my puny little butt down he says, “I don’t like you anymore. We’re done.” So that’s that! I don’t think I can ever trust anyone ever again.
I made it through the rest of the day, eyes just glued to me in my classes, and whispers of arrogant know it all freaks. Jacy came up to me in English class asking if I were ok. Ya right you worthless, wretched beast, try acting like you like me when you were laughing at me when my soulmate dumped me. I’m sure glad I have a supporter to make me feel better. NOT! Gosh, who am I gonna talk to now? My 16-year-old brother, Nick Falk, who is always in his room doing who knows what, not even making eye contact with me. Or maybe I could talk to my sister Allie Falk, but wait; No she’s 20 and in college. I’m sure glad, I’m the youngest in the family, sadly only by 1 year. And ya, my parent’s aren’t even worth mentioning because they are drunken fools, who don’t give a crap about my life. The best thing that would happen in their life was if they heard I got run over and died.
I walked to my door, my heart throbbing. I seriously think my heart died on me, no less than 3 hours ago when that fat face dumped me. I really don’t think guys notice what they do to girls. Guys can change your life, and now I am starting to believe that there is no real good guy out there that could actually love me. I mean now that I think about it, I don’t wear too much makeup, I am a very athletic teenage girl, and I don’t stand a chance of getting looked at over and over again, because of some of the VERY pretty girls in my grade. See, I’m already depressed, and my life has barely started.
Well, I guess it has, I am a lifeguard at the Shady Oaks swimming pool in California. Now that I mention it, there’s only 2 days left until summer, no school and hideous backstabbing “friends”. I walk in our beige home, and smell the disgusting smell of whiskey. I walk in the living room, and see my dad. “What are you lookin’ at you rotten tramp?” He screams at me. I just try to hide the pain, wishing I had someone to cry into and hold on to. I run up the stairs, put my coat on the black coat hanger and knock on Nick’s door. I look at my watch, it was 4 pm. I just remembered he was at football practice. I just go in his Broncos filled room, lie on his bed and cry. I slowly, drift into sleep.
I look at my watch when I wake back up. It was now 6 o’clock. I smelled Axe, and realized my brother was in the room. I carefully looked up, he hasn’t noticed me yet, because he would have chewed my butt off by now if he had. I look at him, he’s by his closet, a towel around his waist. He just got out of the shower. I stood up, trying not to make a sound and the bed just had to stinking creak! He turns around, screams, and drops his towel.
“God, Chelsey! I’m naked here.” He yells, his face turning red, quickly getting the towel off his floor and putting it around his waist again.”I’m sorry. I just… I need someone to talk too.” I say slowly, because he probably is thinking I am stupid right now.”What? Can’t you see I am trying to get dressed?” He kinda shouts.”Ya, then get dressed!” I exclaim, mad he can’t just ask me what’s wrong!”Ok, I’m just gonna’ strip down to my birthday suit when you are standing right in front of me.” He sarcastically, explains to me.
“Well, you already have.” I retort.”Just turn around, and then we can talk okay?” He says, trying to ease down a little bit.”Fine.” I turn around and go sit on his bed.He finishes like 30 seconds later, tells me he is done, and comes to sit by me.”So, what’s up?” He questions.”Well… Ron broke up with me…” I start bawling. He pulls me into him, and starts patting my back, and saying calming words.
“Why? You are an amazing girl.. teenage girl.” He expresses to me, trying to make me feel better.”Thanks,” I say mumbling. I loved this feeling, someone saying you will be ok, and giving me confidence about myself… We sat there talking forever it seemed. I finally told him I should go get ready for bed since it was 9 already.
“Hey, Nick. You are not so bad. Love you.” I said, blushing, my heart tripling, then dying down again when I saw the pic. Of me and Ron kissing on my door. I tore it off, ripped up every little bitty piece of the picture, and threw the picture pieces out of my window, watching them blow away in the howling wind, never to be seen again.
My alarm buzzed off at 6:30 this morning. I went to the bathroom, brushed my teeth, then since it was the 2nd to last day of school, I picked out a pretty descent outfit. I got my darker pair of Silver Jeans, a peach colored shirt thinking majiggy, and my goldish colored sandals. My long brown hair curled, and I put a little mascara on. I went downstairs, ate lucky charms, and went to the phone. I started dialing Jacy’s number to ask for a ride, but then I changed my mind. Of course my parents wouldn’t take me so I just walked the 6 blocks. I got there around 7:45. I was walking up the steps to the high school when I smelled this superb smell. I looked behind me. It was a very attractive guy. He had brown, smooth hair, a tannish skin. Beautiful blue eyes. I stared at him in awe. He looked at me, a quick glimpse and I saw his eyes connect with mine as he kept walking. I wondered why I hadn’t ever noticed a guy that good-looking at my own school before. I guessed it was probably because I was too caught up with Ron.
I saw Jacy, at her locker. I decided to just go talk to her, because I figured I couldn’t live with this misery.”Hey, Jacy.” I said.”Oh, hey Chels.” She said smiling. That was a good sign so far. She said Chels, and ya. I kept on talking.”So, how come you laughed when Ron broke up with me?” I asked, hoping she wouldn’t flip out on me.
“Oh, it was hilarious. Brandon ran into Aggie, and then Aggie started crying. Brandon didn’t know what to do so he hugged her, but Aggie then squeezed his butt. It was hilarious.” She started laughing as she was talking. Jeez, I feel like a big jerk now. She wasn’t even laughing at me, which means we are still friends!
“Wait, who’s Brandon again?” I ask, feeling stupid.”Only like the hottest guy in school. Brown hair, blue eyes, tan skin, nice a…”"Ok, I got it… Ha ha, dreamy.” I realized it was the guy I had seen. Gosh, why hadn’t I noticed him before. Feeling really stupid I ask, “Is he new here?”"No! He’s been going to school with us since 3rd grade.” She exclaimed, raising her eyebrows like and are you ok, sort of look.”Oh, I don’t really remember him.” I say, kind of depressed that I spent my time with that jerk, those whole 2 years.”That’s because you were so in love with Ron. Every time a guy tried talking to you, you would shut them out. Brandon tried talking to you several times before, but you always shut him out…”
“Wow, really? Gosh, you should have told me. I feel like a real big prick now.” Gosh was I really like a snobby girl. Man, I am mad at myself. “Oh, I did try telling you. It’s fine! Forget about that apple. Move on, start changing now, you’re 15, you have a whole life ahead of you.”Gosh I am glad to have a friend like her. The school bells rang, and Jacy headed off to Spanish, and I headed off to Gym class. Which has Ron in it. I sighed as I walked toward the locker room to change into my gym clothes.
I walked in the gym and remembered, that the last 2 days of school for gym, we always have a dance. Kind of like a celebration thing for such a good year, and a way to end the grade you are in. I really was just hoping I wouldn’t be with Ron. But, who knows. Mr. Moalk, the gym teacher assigns us a guy to dance with, and you can’t complain about who you get or you get 3 days of detention. He says, everyone is special for who they are, if they are ugly, fat, skinny, smelly. We should all be treated equally. I think he has that as such a big rule, because when he was younger he was really fat, and got made fun of. Well… At least that’s what I have heard.
“Girls, Line up.” Mr. Moalk shouts. We all get in a line and he starts off with Amy Jo, paired with Brandon. Dangit, there ruins my chance of starting over with him. “Cassandra, and Douglas. Mike and Molly. Emma and Ross. Ron and” …Oh no… There were only a couple of girls left. I swear if it was m… “Chelsey.” OH no, he did not just say our names… TOGETHER! I looked at him, he was making his way towards me.
“Hey,” he says.”Hi,” I say.”Ok, get ready. First song, Angels, by Sarah McLaughlin.” Moalk shouts.Ron grabbed my hand, I held them in his. The music started, and we started dancing. I really wanted this moment to end, because it was bringing back pain. I take a quick look at his pale face. His eyes were watering. Then he looked down at me, and kind of did a little cute smile and continued dancing.
“Guess what? Out of all the people to be partnered with for dancing, I get Ron!” I say very loudly, Jacy motioning for me to calm down with her pretty blue eyes.”Wow, what did he do?” She asks, way surprised.”I don’t know. It was so awkward, we danced to In the Arms of an Angel. It was so sad. At the end he looked down at me and smiled.” I say, spacing off, really, really missing him.”AAh, he is such a butt. You deserve better than him! Come on, let’s go to your house.” She just implies, starting to walk out of the school.”Ok then.” I say, shutting my locker, and getting that sincere swift smell of Brandon. I turned my head, and saw him looking at me. I turned around, popped a smile on my face, and headed out of school.
We finally reached my house like 5 minutes later. Me and Jacy walked into my house; my mom and dad asleep on the couch. “Come on , let’s go upstairs.” I say, motioning for Jacy to follow. Nick was in his room on his computer.”I can’t believe tomorrow is the last day of school,” Jacy says, falling onto my bed.”Ya, I know seriously. The good thing is I won’t have to look at Ron’s ugly face haha.” I say plopping down onto my bed next to her.”Ya, he’s a butt. He is going out with Cassandra Miliis.” Jacy tells me in a soft voice.”Wow, really? Since when?” I ask, in shock.”Since he broke up with you in front of the whole school.”
“Ugh, please don’t remind me,” I whimper, rolling my eyes.”You can’t lose someone if they aren’t for you.” She quotes.”Let’s go to the basement and play Xbox Kinect. Sound good?” I ask her, making my way up from my bed.”Sure, I call playing just dance 3 though!” She exclaims, nearly shouting.”Ok fine! It’s on!” I yell back, kind of laughing. We were about even. We both won 3 or 4, and then Jacy’s mom called so she had to go. I decide to go get in the shower, since I had nothing better to do. I took a relaxing 15 minute shower, and then went into Nick’s room to get a pair of socks. I knocked before entering, so he wouldn’t throw a fit.
“What?” He screams.”Can I come in and get a pair of socks please?” I yell back.”No, don’t come in no…w, co…me back I… in 5 miinuteees.” He says, pausing in between words.”Nick, just get me a stinking pair of socks!”"I will, just wait.”I leave, go downstairs, get a drink of milk, look at the clock. It had been 5 minutes, I go back upstairs and yell, “It’s been 5 minutes, get me a pair of black Nike socks!”He opens the door, sweat all over his face. “Here,” he says, “Happy?”"Ya, why are you sweating?”"I was working out.” He says. “What else would I be doing?”"I don’t know. Thanks Nick.”
I go in my room and pick out my outfit for tomorrow. Just a few days ago I felt like it was the beginning of 9th grade, and just like that it’s the end. Gosh, this world goes by faster when you’re older. I don’t know if I want to get older. I turn out my light, and fall asleep, listening to Angels, by Sarah McLaughlin, tears streaming down my face.
I woke up at my original time, 6:30. I looked in the mirror, at my spotless face, and realized it was the last day of 10th grade. I decided to wear my long, brown hair curled today, along with just a pair of jeans, and a plaid Hollister shirt. I found a blue bra to go under my blue kami. I started putting my bra on and Nick walked in. He stood there spotless, my chest bare, his face getting red. I hurried up and put it on, Nick just watching.
“Um, can I have a pair of black Nike socks?” He asks.”Sure Nick, in my top drawer.” I say, getting the rest of my clothes on.At school, everyone was talking and hugging each other. I spotted Jacy and made my way toward her.”Hey,” I whisper.”Hey Chels!” Jacy whispers. The bell rang, and we parted our own ways.I stopped abruptly when I heard Jacy yell my name.”Chels, stop at my locker after school, I have something for you!” She exclaims, shouting.
“Ok.” I say turning around when I run into Brandon.I seriously just banged into him, I fall and drop all of my stuff.”Oh my gosh! I am so sorry.” Brandon says, looking worried while he started picking up my books.”It’s fine.” I say, immediately in love with his low, deep voice.”Here let me help you up.” He says, holding his hand down in front of my hand.I grab onto his hand and feel the warmth of his spearmint breath on my face. I look up at him, his pretty eyes. He was looking down my shirt.
“I’m sorry for running into you.” I say.”You’re fine. I am sorry for running into you!” He exclaims, looking me in my eyes.”You’re fine,” I say as I start to walk to my class.”Wait, Chelsey.” He yells, speed walking to catch me before I headed into Science.”Can I have your number to check up on you later?” He said.”Ya sure!” I exclaim, thinking that was a smooth move. I gave it to him and said, “I’m fine though, you don’t have to worry.”"I know, I just want to make sure.” He says, reading the number I wrote on his paper.
I walk into Science class, not listening to any of the goodbye speeches, and thinking of what had just happened. Before I knew it, the ‘Have a Happy Summer’ song, blared through the school hallways’. I made my way towards Jacy’s locker.”Here,” she said, handing me a little bag. I opened it and saw a little necklace that said BFF’S.”Aww. Thanks so much!” I exclaim pulling out her gift.I watch her open it, and her mouth drop when she sees it’s the whole collection of the Harry Potter books.”Omg. How did you get them all in the original copies?” She shouts, people looking at us.”I found it in Target, the very last one!” I say, way quieter than her shout.”Thanks so much.” She pleads, leaning in to hug me.”No problem, I’ll call you later! Bye!” I yell to her as I started walking out of school. I spot Nick’s Bronco’s Jacket, and make my way towards him.
“Hey Nick, you ready to go?” I ask him.”Ya, let’s go.” He says unlocking his Chevy truck doors.”Where’s Jacy?” He asks, looking at me.”She had to go home, and babysit Jack. Why do you care?” I ask in complete confusion.”Because she’s hot and she gets me….”"Ok Nick, sorry I’m not her.” I say in disgust.”No you’re awesome, just she has big b…”"Ok Nick, I get it! She’s hot and I’m not.” I say rolling my eyes.”She’s not only hot, she is Outstandingly beautiful!” He says smiling.”Gosh, you guys are weird.” I say looking at him.”No we are not. It’s a part of growing up, just like you and getting your pe….”
“Nick, seriously! I don’t need a puberty talk here!” I yell, slamming my arm into his dash.”It’s not puberty talk, it’s just a fact. Mom and dad never told me anything, I doubt they ever told you anything either Chels.” He says calming down, looking me straight in my eyes.”Ya Nick, because you know what us girls go through.” I say, wishing I had parents who actually told me about growing up and changing.”Well, I probably know more than you.” He says.”Ok than. I doubt it.” I say feeling weird.”I know you feel weird, but if you have anything to ask me, ask me.” He says, giving me a reassuring nod.
“Thanks Nick, but I have everything under control. Well in that department, I need to talk to you about a guy.” I say, noticing he just passed our house.”Ya, I know. I just passed our house. I don’t wanna’ go home, I just want to talk to someone. And what about a guy?” He asks.”This guy, I ran into him today and he was like all worried, like are you ok, and all of that. I’ve noticed him looking at me and then he asked me for my number so he could check up on me and make sure I was ok. Does that mean anything.” I ask, kicking off my Adidas sandals.”Probably. That was probably his way of getting your number, without actually asking you, so you wouldn’t think something is up.” He says smiling at me.”Well, his name is Brandon, and he is hot! Why would someone like him, want someone’s number like me?” I ask, giving up hope.
“Chels, you have got to believe in yourself. You are awesome, nice, pretty. You have a good body Chels don’t be stupid! ” He exclaims looking me up and down.”I do not have a good body. I am flat, guys won’t like me for that.” I say, looking down at my body.”Chels, you are tan. Your eyes are beautiful, there are other things guys like besides those!” He says, with some hope in his voice.”Ok, ya like what?” I ask him, wishing that I looked like Jacy.”Your personality. Just trust me, I am a guy. I think I know what I am talking about!” He tells me in a soothing voice.”Ok fine Nick.” I say mad.”Is it your time of the month, why are you so mad?” He asks, changing the subject slightly.”Gosh Nick. NO! I just hate myself sometimes.”"Chelsey gosh dangit! Listen to me, you are awesome, if guys didn’t like you they would be stupid.”
“Well, thanks.” I say, glad he can actually say those things to me.”You are welcome, it’s the truth.” He says, relieved I listened.I noticed he started heading home again. We pulled in the drive way.”Nick, thanks. It seriously means a lot to me.” I say getting out of the door, running up to hug him.”You’re welcome Chels. You deserve to be told these things. I know Mom and dad aren’t here for us, but I am.” He says giving me a big hug.”Love you Nick.” I say to him as we walk in.”Love you too Chels.” He says smiling.I went to my room and sat on my bed. Just thinking of everything that Nick and I just talked about.
