Red, white and blue and the man in black; an American icon. from the time I could remember, Johnny Cash has been a household name. I was fortunate enough to have met this amazing artist at such a young age. My family and I went to a Johnny Cash concert and met this unique man with his family. (June Carter Cash), backstage, minutes before showtime. he was like a tower standing tall next to me. As a child, his music was a major influence in the songs I’ve composed over the years. his rockish – country – blues riffs from songs like “Walk the Line”, “Ring of Fire”, ” Orange Blossom Special”, & “Jackson”, has made such an impact in the music industry.

During one of our rehearsal’s, we discussed some of his hits.

Here is the list:

1 – Walk the line – this is such a strong love song, “Because your mine, I walk the line”. he say’s it all right there!

2 – Ring of fire – this was a cross-over hit that reached number 1 on the country charts and also reached top 20 on the pop charts. The song was written by June Carter and Merle Kilgore. this is such a great song!

3 – I see Darkness – this is such a deep dark melody. Haunting and beautiful at the same time. Absolutely, gorgeous.

4 – Hurt – this song was originally recorded by Nine Inch Nails. it is a beautiful, sad song that Johnny brought such raw emotion to it.. I play this song over and over. If you ever saw the video of Hurt, I find that I can watch it over and over again. There are some scenes that were filmed in his home.

In my anthropology class I have decided to look at the history of metal, specifically the changes that have occurred, and try to say why metal music has changed, try to find the common link between the decades and such. any ideas on how to start? I have a few ideas but this is turning out harder than I thought.

I suggest you associate metal's timeline with the scenes…it would make it much easier such as…

As you can see metal doesn't only change over time but with scenes as well…culture definitely has an impact on metal!
